Planning and Instruction

"Teachers design and create instructional experiences based on their knowledge of content and curriculum, students, learning environments, and assessments."

Artifact (as evidence of meeting standard)

I found that through student teaching that planning a unit is one of the hardest tasks that I has ever undertaken. It is one that kept me up many a night pondering what I was going to teach the nest morning, especially in the case of my economics classes. I found that careful planning meant the extracting of information in such a way as to broader a product that captivated the attentions and minds of the students. This phenomena is one of the hardest processes for me as a teacher, choosing what to teach over something else. It was very hard to simply skim over the the issues, people, and places that I possess an intense love for. This is a question that we constantly attacked in our seminar class and proves to be one that I will grapple with for many years to come. Careful planning though, supplemented by reflection on what I teach for will help me to deal with this issue in the future. I am very optimistic that I will be able to master the particulars for designing an effective curriculum.
