Content and Curriculum

"Teachers demonstrate a strong knowledge of content areas established by the National Council for the Social Studies."

Artifact (as evidence of meeting standard)

In my rationale I describe my views upon the importance of teacher knowledge in the content area. A teacher possessing sufficient knowledge in the content area that they are teaching will allow them to be better prepared in designing curricula that is both rich and meaningful. As you will be able to see I have a major emphasis in history. To put it plainly, I have an intense love for history. I focused the majority of my undergraduate studies in social histories. I feel that politics and wars have had a significant outcome on the world, but it is the history of people and how they acted and reacted that intrigues me the most. My ability to analyze current social conditions allows me to get my students to actively involve in critically thinking about the present social conditions that they are embraced in, both directly and indirectly.
